In this lesson, you’ll learn how to create a killer floral still life worthy of a Dutch Masters painting, and then move through the process of drawing real-life flowers, from bud to fully bloomed.

4. Shading, Details & Texture

You’ll learn how to communicate shadow & light in your drawings with key techniques that every artist should know. We’ll cover pointillism, cross-hatching, and other methods for showing depth, as well as how to show natural details and textures of floral & botanical subject matter.

Hello! I’m Jodi. I am a multidisciplinary artist, educator, Mom/Dog Mom, and Red Wine Enthusiast with a passion for drawing flowers, plants, and people. I have been drawing since I cold hold a pencil, and grew up always knowing that I wanted to be an artist. My business consists of providing live event calligraphy & illustration for clients who value quality & artistry as much as I do, as well as teaching online courses to the best students ever.

Since starting Someday Art Co in 2016, I have worked with an extensive list of clients such as Tiffany & Co, Guerlain, Diptyque, Holt Renfrew and Dior. I have taught over 500 students everything from how to find their own calligraphy style to how to start working with luxury brands themselves. + What is "The Masterclass Vault"?

This is basically an Upgraded version of the Fundamentals of Floral Drawing course. If you purchase The Masterclass vault, you get the full Fundamentals course, PLUS a ton of extras that were cut out of the original Floral Drawing Masterclass form 2021. I made a lot of edits because the original class was over 8 hours long, and I wanted to make something that was more time-accessible this time around. The Fundamentals course is around 4 hours of content. The Masterclass vault adds an extra 2 hours of lessons, 2 hours of recorded live sessions, and a monthly live drawing session for the rest of 2022. Plus, you get access to a library of floral referencee photos!

+ How do I know if I should get just Fundamentals of Floral Drawing, or Fundamentals + The Masterclass Vault?

I think it depends mainly on how much time you have / realistically enjoy spending on online learning. If you don't have a lot of spare time (I feel this!), I would recommend doing just Fundamentals of Floral Drawing. You can always upgrade to The Masterclass Vault later if you get through the course and decide you want more! If you have lots of time and want to do a super deep dive into floral & botanical drawing, then go for the Vault. The other factor is if you really like to attend live lessons, and need that monthly live guided session to keep you accountable, then The Masterclass Vault might be a great option for you.

+ Who is this course for?

This course is for anyone with a love of drawing who wants to learn how to draw florals & botanicals in an organic, intuitive way with a focus on drawing from life. Beginners are very welcome!

+ Do I have to draw the exact same flowers that you draw in the course?

No! The flowers that I draw during the demos are just for example purposes, though you are of course welcome to pick up the same types of flowers for your own practice or to follow along with the lesson. The important thing is finding flowers in different stages of bloom so you can follow along doing a bud study, closed flower study, and open flower study, but it can be with any type of flower!
